Hi everybody. Welcome to this week’s insider yacht review. This is the brief roundup of the three yachts we have for you today. As always, the full-length review is available in the links just below this window so click on any of those and it will play the full-length review that goes through all the photographs, all the specifications and all that good stuff. So the three boats that we have today are all Raised Pilothouse style boats. They are all in the 85-foot range, all about four or five years old. So let’s get stuck in. The first one that I have for you today is a Sunseeker called Justeni. Now this is a 2008, it is the 86’ there called, Sunseeker yacht over in Europe.
This boat is in France but they have the same style of Raised Pilothouse boat over here in the US and it has all of the US power equipment conversions. This one is a great model for us to look at and it’s a great, well taken care of boat so that we can see all of the good ins and outs. Launched in 2008 it is also a 2008 model. Sometimes you’ll see different dates there. The boats that are launched towards the end of the year, so the second half of the year, sometimes they’ll be a 2009 model that is actually launched in 2008 so that’s some of the reasons why you’ll see two different dates here.
The other reason, of course, if the two dates are far apart then the later date will be a refit date. Let’s say for instance, “First Draw” which is a boat that we’ve just listed which is a 1995 Christensen 120’, the two dates there, the 1995 and 2011 because she went through a huge refit in 2011. Back to Justeni. She is 86’ long, beam is 21’, draft is 6.6. Now the draft’s a little bit on the higher side of things and that is because Sunseeker always used deep “V” hulls. It’s just a different style of hull construction or design that makes them a little bit deeper draft.
It also has its upsides. They’re a bit more stable at sea. They pick up on a plane quite nicely. This one is 6’6. It’s not too deep but just slightly deeper than the average. It’s a fiberglass hull, has a great top speed on all of their Sunseeker range. Most of them will have the high-powered MTU engines which why it has these high speeds, ran to 29 knots, this one. It is in France as I mentioned, 2008. It has four staterooms. The nice thing about the Sunseeker is because of that shape of the hull it means they have a lot of volume down there to use. They’re also quite wide at the bow which means you get a real nice wide, or beamy, four VIP cabin. This has a full beam master. It has a nice sized VIP which is the one that is in the small thumbnail photographs here.
Then it has another two cabins which I believe in Justeni they’re both twin cabins, one with a Pullman. Great option here for a modern style with nice big cabins. You’ll see in the three boats we have today the different styles between the European design and the US design. We have seen this before with the country kitchen. US is a lot more social and crew interaction with the guests where as the European take on it is a bit more formal, a bit more service orientated and you don’t have those common areas. We’ll see this one when we go into the other pictures and full reviews on these boats.
So the next one that we have is the Lazzara, very well known US builder. They’re here in Florida, built over on the west coast in Tampa. This is a very stereotypical US design. It has the big country kitchen. It has the big open exterior spaces. They have the big swim platform, the hydraulic platform which are very common over here. This is 84’. There you see the two dates on the right hand side, 2006 and 2007. So it was built and launched in 2006 but it’s a 2007 model. The beam here is slightly narrow, 20’, and the draft is a full two feet less.
That sort of goes to show the huge differences you have in the different hull designs. It is a nice Bahamas boat, nice shallow draft. Speed, again, is up there, 26 knots cruising and 30 knots top speed. It is fiberglass. All the boats today are fiberglass hulls. This one is here in the US. At the moment there are a couple of them that were shipped over to Europe but this one is here and available to show actually. I showed this boat just last week in one of our tour days. I hold yacht tours everyday a few times throughout the day and this is one of the boats we had during the tour, fantastic boat.
The interior layout here, although it is slightly narrower than the last one, it does have a lot of length of the volume they use. They keep the mechanical spaces and the crew spaces to a minimum towards the back so it leaves a lot of the volume of the hull to guest use. It has a nice full beam master. It actually has five cabins. The forward VIP is actually split into two cabins which is great for chartering. Families charter with kids they can put the kids in their own little area up forwards. They have the two cabins. It’s great for kids and nannies, for example. It’s nice having that extra cabin there. It really boosts your charter potential.
Beautiful interior, nice typical Lazzara glossy woods and all top spec interiors. You’ll actually see they have a beautiful bathroom and shower in the master cabin. One of the previous reviews that I’ve done on one of the 150 Trinities we had seen the different uses and different matches of marbles and how they book match marbles and the different sort of patterns you can get. We have great marble here, it’s well book matched. It has heavy clouding in there so you can really so how they use that way of joining the two marble slabs in this boat. We will take a look at that later. This boat’s called “Passion” by the way. We don’t have the name of the boat there.
Then finally out of the three for today, we have Kena Marie. This is a Debirs yacht. These are another European manufacturer, a Dutch manufacturer. This has a pretty unique interior layout. This was built back in 2007. They still have the same basic layout in the boats they launch today. It’s 85’, less beamy again at 19’ and fairly average draft around 6’ which is pretty average for this sort of size. Fiberglass hull and nice speeds, 23 and 27 knots there. It’s also in Ft. Lauderdale. It’s another boat that we had done one of the tours on about a month ago.
This one has four staterooms. As mentioned, it’s slightly different layouts on the interior. It’s almost like a custom layout although it’s not a custom built boat, they are production. It has almost a second salon up forwards where you’d usually see a country kitchen or the pilothouse. This is a true raised pilothouse so that second band of windows you see around the front of the boat there, that is the pilothouse. It’s on the second in between level. It’s not on the main deck level and it’s not on the fly bridge level. It’s kind of in between them. That’s where the raised pilothouse name comes from.
So up forwards it has almost a TV watching cinema area, also used as an office area and then you have the regular main salon and dining. The table is back aft where you would expect to see them. Down in the lower levels of the boat, they actually have quite a large crew area and the main galley down underneath here. Also, the engineering spaces are fairly large for this size boat. For me, the accommodation spaces down below are probably a little bit smaller than you would expect to see on boats of this size. The master cabin is laid out at an angle rather than the bed being forward and aft and it being full beam.
We will see that on the photographs in the full review we do that is in the link below. A great boat, very well built. Debirs has a very good reputation for building quality product. It’s one of those things that’s complete personal choice. Some people love that forward open concept area and having the lounge and a separate office area. A lot of owners that want to be live-aboards will like that because it’s a big office area. Personal choices, no right or wrong here.
